In the first four weeks of lab, students have been exploring basic lab skills. These basic skills include how to interpret and make graphs using excel, determining cell size differences with simulated microscopy skills, and investigating spectroscopy. These skills are foundational skills that will be used throughout the integrated BISC/CHEM course series, as well as many upper level science courses. Focusing on these basic skills in the first weeks of labs helps to acclimate our students to the lab, and helps them start thinking like scientists. These skills will be built on in upcoming labs including our DNA Investigation Module, and our UV Protection Lab Module. Both of these lab modules help students explore more complex concepts within our courses in an innovative and inquiry based lab approach.
